I had a rebuilt motor with a 18 month warranty put in my El Camino, now 16 months has passed and the motor went (locked up, oil dripping out at the crank). I was told that they will replace it but by the time I get it back I will only have a 1 month warranty on the new motor. My questions are, is this the way it works, do I only have a 1 month warranty? Do all shops run like this? Or do I have any other options like court, DMV, etc.? The motor came from (The ENGINE CONNECTION, INC.)

Yes thats the way it works.Just think if people would get a new warranty with a warranty replacement, then guess what would happen all the time.About the time a warranty is ready to expire someone would blow up their engine or break whatever on purpose so that they could a replacement and a brand new warranty.I'm not saying that is what you did or that you or anyone here would, but it would probably happen a lot.Businesses would never stop losing money.Warrantees start from purchase date and only last the alloted amount of time.

John, I see what you are saying but they tell me the crank broke and I don't see how you can do it on purpose.

I wasn't trying to say you did it on purpose but your warranty will only last from original purchase date to the written time they post. Most of the time a crank doesn't break.Just be glad it did while it is under warranty. If it broke 1 day after the warranty period then they wouldn't be obligated to replace it.Most places will work with you on a case like that. But after that it's over. That's just the way it works.Sorry.At least you will get a new one and I hope it will last longer.Ask them the magnaflux the crank and rods before they use them to find any cracks to start with.Yours must have had one they didn't catch.
