I have a '70 SS 454 that makes 505 hp. I asked the local parts store man what size fuel line to run from the tank to the rubber hose at the pump; and he said without a doubt use 3/8". I notice however that the line from the pump to the carb is pretty standard 5/16". Would there be any disadvantages to using the 5/16" from the tank to the pump; would there be any advantages to using the 3/8" from the tank to the pump. Thanks for the input guys!

Tim, more dia more flow. This is why most BBC cars were plumbed with 3/8" line all the way from tank to carb. Use 3/8's throughout. I've seen some cars with 1/2" from pump to carb, which makes sense since it's after the pump. To run 5/16 after the pump makes no sense. Here definitely run 3/8. If you don;t want to replace the tank line run the 5/16" and see what happens. That big rat may starve for fuel at the top end.

Hey Gene, thanks for the info. I suspected that the 3/8 would be the best option, but wasn't sure.
