I want some good opinions on a new engine. A while back I decided to go with a 350 small block, nicely streetable and nicely built up. But then I was looking at long blocks when I came across a 327 long block. It's rather nice. It has 10:1 pistons, a forged steel crank, and stock heads and makes 325 horse power and 348 torque. The 350 that I'm looking at has the same 10:1 Keith Black pistons, only has a cast crank, makes 352 hp and 378 torque, and is 300 hundred cheaper. The thing is is that I have had several people tell me that the 327 is a much better engine than the 350. I'm not sure. Is this true? Which one would pull my 4dr brick better?

Both the 327 and 350 have the same standard bore - 4.00". My personal opinion is the 350, with its longer stroke, should give you more options and versatility.

Just my $.02 worth.

Don is right. You can do more stuff with a 350. Stroke it de-stroke it. Plus if you God forbid mangle a rod or do something bad to the crank, it would be easier finding the parts. I myself built a 327 only because I'm puting my car back to original equipment. But if I were rodding it I'd do a 350 or a 400 sb. JMO http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
