: Radiator Search Narrowed Need Input
OrrieG Nov 8th, 00, 9:05 PM After sticker shock from local sources looked at Groundup for a radiator for the 64 SB. They have two applications for the 64. First is a 3 row Modine with upper and lower tanks. Second is a Harrison 4 row cross flow. Has anyone bought these and are they truely bolt in replacements? I'm not afraid of a little fabrication or bracket modification but this is my daily driver and can't be off the road long.
Thanks

Randy Mosier Nov 8th, 00, 10:29 PM I put a three row Modine in my 71. It bolted right in. I ordered mine from a local radiator shop.
leeds Nov 8th, 00, 11:02 PM Just put in a 4-core in my 70. The only problem I had was the transmission coolant lines (TH400) didn't line up very well, had to bend them to clear lower rad hose. when I pull the motor eventually I will replace them
kevin d Nov 9th, 00, 3:36 AM Just put a new "heavy duty" Modine in my 72 a couple of months ago. Direct swap and the local parts store had it in stock. That saved me a bundle on shipping!

Honey, its not a $200 hat. The distributor was $200, the hat came with it. kevin d

Philip Nov 9th, 00, 2:41 PM the 4 row Harrison cross flow will bolt into your 64. It is the same as used in the 68 Camaro. The cross flow cools better, it just doesn't look original. If you would like I can measure the one in my 68 Camaro and send the dimensions to you.
OrrieG Nov 9th, 00, 2:58 PM Thanks for all the replies, one more check of the measurements and I'll order. I've talked to local radiator shops and parts houses, prices are in the $260 plus range. Even with freight it looks like Groundup with member discount will still be less.
Greg Eacker Nov 9th, 00, 5:28 PM Have put 3 row Modines in both of my rides
(SBC and 350 Olds) both less than a half hour of work, perfect fit and less than $150, with no cooling problems in North Carolina's summer heat. My opinion

MAXX2 Nov 10th, 00, 7:26 PM HEY;
Call Bob Bruning at AFCO RADIATOR 1-800-417-7441. He can set you up with the "Perfect Radiator".
By the way, our neighbor down the street bought 1 for his '70 Chevelle SS and AFCO didn't add extra $$$ for a 34" wide radiator. If Judy and I had known this, we would have gone to the 34" instead of our 31".
We had our's polished and boy can you see your reflection.
You'll "KICK YOURSELF" in the you know where if you don't buy this radiator.

OrrieG Jan 2nd, 01, 2:04 PM Thought I would give you an update. Got a Modine #289 3 core, had to go out of town to save about $100.00. Installed it Saturday, bolted right in. Had to use a 69 Z28 thermostat housing to route the upper hose around the oil filler tube. It was $18 at NAPA, runs $35 in the resto catalogs. The NAPA molded lower hose for a 64 is OK. For the upper hose we used a NAPA molded 68 Camaro w/ SB, you need to cut off about 4" on the radiator end. Each hose was $13. Trans lines bolted right up.
Thanks to all that responded and helped. Also, I did look at the Afco products, very nice but I wanted to stay more stock looking. I will definately look at them when I build the future rod.

Greg Eacker Jan 2nd, 01, 6:21 PM I'm happy for you. Happy New Year also! Outta town,!?!?
OrrieG Jan 3rd, 01, 8:45 PM No, hunkered down for the winter, took it easy over holidays, now back in the grind. Paper said Boise had 23 days in December of foggy inversion, but sunny at Bogus. It wasn't bad today 20 and sunny, no wind. Very seldom travel this time of year, every direction has at least a couple of nasty passes and I;ve made to many of those 15 mph across Oregon ice trip in my life. 24 hours from Eugene to Boise is no fun!! BTW email me your sweatshirt size.
