Yup, it's a big motor home and all chevy. I will be buying doug thorley headers with the smog tube crap and flow master big block "quite" mufflers. The question is 3 inch from header to muff then down to 2 1/2 and out or what would you folks recomend. 87 454 w/400 trannie

Thanks Jim

For a big motorhome I'd run 2.5" pipe all the way. 3" will make you drop a bit of low end torque, and you need every single bit that you can get with one of those juggernauts. You probably won't rev the motor up enough to benefit from 3" exhaust.

Yup. And you can even go smaller after the mufflers if it saves you bucks because the motor will never know. But 2.5" is fine. My only question is ( which I can;t answer) is mufler pipe like an electrical cord, the longer the higher the resistance? Still, I shouldn't think 3" is required.

To each his own, but if it were me with a motor home (long highway trips), I'd get stock type quiet mufflers. Even the "quiet" Flowmasters would get old in a hurry for me.
