Hi. I recently had a 700R4 installed in my 1968 el camino. This is my problem. While driving shifting from second into third gear is taking forever. I usually have to get up to between 2800rpm and 3000rpm before it shifts into 3rd gear. The shifing on first to second and third to fouth is just fine. Anyone know how I could adjust the shift points from second to third? Is this controlled by the govenor? I messed around with the tv cable on the carb and that only seemed to affect first into second gear. If anyone knows if there is something I could do to fix this or if there is a kit or something out there I need, could you please let me know. I would appreciate any help on this. Thanks.

Michael

The TV cable adjustment is critical to all shift points. If you are using a carb from a car that had no overdrive the geometry of the linkage will not allow enough travel to properly adjust the cable for its full travel. Try a search here for more info or e-mail me and I can send more information I got from bowtie overdrives who make a kit to fix the linkage problem for $14.

the tv cable adjustment if not right will fry the tranny and you do need the correct geometry for the tv cable at the carb..
i have a 2004r and have all of the above plus a transgo shiftkit...
however if you check with those who do a lot of work on the gm overdrives, i'm sure that they will tell you that the 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4 shift points are contolled by the govenor..
mine shifts the same way and i am told the the weights and springs need to be "played" with to set the shift points to where "you" want them..
