I have a 70 ragtop that I'm presently restifying and plan on installing a 502/502. Will I have any clearance problems w/ the cowl-induction hood? I'm also concerned about getting it to hook up. Presently have a 12 bolt posi w/ 373's and will have a TH400 w/ stock SS suspension. Thinking of using either WELD wheels or ordering reproduction SS wheels in 15" w/ wider width. The car will be shown and driven so I'm trying to get a good combination of cruiser and performer. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Scott

Get those wider rims, the ones that look like the SS wheels in a 15x8 or 15x10. They look stock but it will have a better bite. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

There should be no CI Hood clearance problem at all, unless you use a real tall intake. It should all fit just like a 396/454.

DZAUTO,
Would a Performer RPM be considered taller than a Performer? Any problems w/ either fitting? Thanks for the help.

I've always had success contacting Edelbock for those type of questions. They are very helpful.....hey Gimme N SS, let me know where you get the wider factory wheels. That is the look I am going for as well. Maybe 15x8.5 in the rear and 15X7 in the front.......sneal46

Yes, the Performer RPM will give you problems. I've had two CI '70 SS cars - the first I put the RPM on and the CI air cleaner rubbed underneath on the hood. The second one I used the Performer (half inch shorter in rear) and it didn't rub but it was still just tall enough to flatten the cowl seal out. So, I drove to the shows without the seal then put it on after I popped the hood. Both cars had no spacer and were running the Holley 3310 carb.

OK Stan, with that knowledge, do you know, or does anyone who is listening to this conversation know, first of all, what the height of a 425hp/427 or L-78 or LS-6 type intake vs a performer is? Because those factory aluminum intakes fit just fine with CI. But I have never had the opportunity to compare them side by side. And, I have never had a reason to measure any of the factory aluminum intakes for height. I said this in another post a while back, I just have this thing for factory hi-perf induction systems. I do realize that there are aftermarket products that DO perform and produce more power than some of the factory parts.
For example, I have a SB406 in my 56 Vette with a modified Rochester FI unit. Now there is no question that I could strap on one of 4 Holley carbs that I have and get more out of the 406. But the FI is just magic.

Hey Guy's,
I don't know the exact height of the stock intake manifold for the ci cars, but I do know they're a special "low rise" type. This include's the LS6,LS5 and the 396 (402) models. I'm using a Performer 2-0 intake on my 70 with a Edelbrock 750 carb w/elctric choke. I'd say the Performer is a good inch to a inch and a half taller than the stock intake.
I've run into problems with the ci air cleaner hitting the electric choke if you attempt to use it WITHOUT the spacer. If you try to use the ci air cleaner with the spacer, then the rubber seal around the cleaner presses very tightly against the bottom of the hood. I guess the only thing to do is use a Holley or Rochester Carb, but I can't tell you if you'd run into the same problem with those too, either. My .02 worth. NP

The Edlebrock catalog has the dimensions of all the popular manifolds. You can measure a stock one and compare. I don't know if the same info is on thier web site.
Hope this helps,

Thanks for all the responses. I'd sure hate to end up w/ parts that weren't compatible. SNEAL46, one of the companies is Wheel Vintiques and have also seen the wheels listed in various catalogs and car mags.

I have a 70 ss 396 with the performer rpm
and my stock A/C hits the cowl hood,I had to take off the electric choke for my edlebrock
for the A/C to fit..choke wired open.I am switching to a non rpm manifold,a little lower is good.
