I have a 70' Chevelle with a 396 and power brakes. Just bought a pair of hooker comp headers 2" x 30". Left side went on with no problems. Drivers side having tons of problems with. Drivers side hits everything motor mount, sterring column had to be pulled , also hits lower a arm. Any suggestions or installation tips to make them fit right. Thanks for any help.. They are being installed from the bottom. Is jacked up 2foot right now. Was told that i might have wrong motor mounts. Don't know what to do anymore. Thought it would be weekend job now going on two weekends.

I put Hooker Comp headers on my 72 Malibu, but did it as I was installing the engine,on the drivers side, all I had to do was ding the headers in one place down on the frame rail by the brake line jct. block, I dont understand why you are having so much trouble with the motor mounts and A-frame, I had to ding the pass. side so it would clear the upper A-frame....Good Luck http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I put a set of Hooker Ceramics on a '72 402 Auto, A/C and Power Brakes. I could have lived with a dinged down tube on the driver side, but I chose to relocate the brake proportioning valve. This took an extra weekend, what with new brake lines for the front and splice job into the rear lines, but if worked out really well. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Are you trying to install them from above? No way will this happen, usually with BB headers, on the drivers side,I have to unbolt the engine and jack it up to get enough room to put the header in from underneath. Car has to be up in the air pretty high also.

I completely agree. If the motor is in; they have to come in from the bottom. I have the same headers on my 427 in my '70. A lift if the best way to get the height you need. As I remember we had the thing up about 3 feet and all was over but the bolts.

Take a good look at your air cleaner lid with the engine rested in the mounts and look to see if it sits pretty level, If it leans to the rear you may have the wrong mounts, Either way try replacing the mounts with the after market poly urathane ones, much easier to deal with. Call hooker in Ontario, CA they have a 800 number. tell them the problem and hopfully they can help. They helped my drvers side hanging 1" from the ground and drug the collector of from the muffler shop.
