I'm getting ready to install the windshield in my 1970. Can anyone tell me where I can find the two pieces that screw to the cowl and hold the glass in place? What is the correct terminology for these pieces? Thanks

I coould be wrong but I believe the pieces your reffering to do not actually hold the windshield in.They are locating tabs that the glass rests on providing the up and down centering of the glass. the widshield is just glued in with the butyl tape be sure to primer the frame with butyl primer first then after setting glass run a thin bead of sealant around the edge.

pmullaly is correct. These are just support for the glass, they should have some sort of rubber coating so you don't have metal-to-glass contact. The actual glass is help in place with butyl sealant. I would not recommend the modern urthane sealers that most shops use, as this is very rigid, and once it's in place it's a ***** to try to get out. Also in the event of an accident, the butyl will give more to help prevent a bizzillion pieces of glass spraying everywhere.

Also, coming from a radio guy, make sure you have the correct "hidden antenna" glass for your '70. There is a pig tail at the bottom of the glass that must be carefully pluged into the cowl connector so you have radio reception. Be careful not to rip or damage this wire.

Hope that helps.

thanks for the help! Do you know where I can find replacements, or do I even need them. Both of my originals were bent up and rusted from the window sagging.

1Quik7D,Those little rubber blocks are usually packed in the package with the butyl tape. HTH.

Chev64,

Those aren't the blocks needed. Yes, blocks are included with the butyl tape, but those are for the rear window installations.

The ones needed are metal made to be attached to the cowl, the ends are padded with rubber or similar material that holds the front windshield to the proper height.

I would try an auto body supply store, body shop, or repetible glass shop. Bring one in if you have to show them.
