: What parts from a 70 Monte can I use?
Rod Jun 16th, 00, 11:23 AM I found a parts car and may buy the whole car if there is enough for me to use. Besides the 12 bolt and dash what else can I use? Sterring column? Other parts?

Jason Shulenberger Jun 16th, 00, 12:17 PM The seats (buckets for sure, and I believe bench, and rear) can be interchanged. The frame, and cushions are all the same. You just need to re-upholster them.
The center console, steering column, and I believe window crank units (both power, and manual) are interchangeable also.
The dash will fit in a Chevelle. The wood grain can be removed exposing a Chevelle correct dash face. However, some wood grain (aluminum) panels are held to the dash with clips that go straight through the plastic dash. If this is the case, the dash probably can't be used. You may be able to patch these wholes, but I think they are in some bad spots.
I'm sure there are allot of other pieces that are interchangeable as well.
drptop70ss Jun 16th, 00, 3:48 PM Lots of stuff can be used, the monte is built on a 4 door chevelle platform, so just about everything except the sheetmetal is the same (except trunk which fits chevelle).Front bumper is the same as elcamino. I think its easier to list stuff you cant use!

All the glass is the same except for the 1/4 glass, sun visors, window regulators, except 1/4 windows, door hinges, wind shield moldings and back glass moldings, trunk lid,
all drive train parts including suspension,
dash if you prefer woodgrain,
The Monte was basicly a luxury version of the Chevelle with a longer wheelbase.
And the same goes for all other GM A- body cars, they all used a lot of the same parts.

Randy Mosier Jun 16th, 00, 10:00 PM And here's a little tidbit of useless information. The Monte was originally supposed to be a front wheel drive cousin of the Caddy Eldorado and Old Toronado. That's why the front end was designed that way. Chevrolet changed their minds almost at the last minute.
I think everyone else covered parts interchangeability.

The Grandprix is built like the Monte,
it also has the long nose.

Greg Eacker Jun 19th, 00, 5:20 PM Where are you going to put the Monte trunk lid on the Elky? A tonneau cover or as a spoiler?
DaleP Jun 19th, 00, 7:03 PM Using that long hood gives it a cool overbite look!
Seriously, just take some parts from your Chevelle and build a unique car. How many restored Montes do you see? They're real attention getters.
