Without pulling out the seat in my '68 -
does anyone know the spacing of the bolts side to side front to back?

I would like to either buy a new seat, or get one out of wrecking yard. I'm thinking of something with a taller profile, or something.

After 30 years, this seat needs to be re-built - or just replaced.

Try crawling underneath with a tape measure. The bolts go through the floor to captured nuts. Should be easy to measure.
