Hi T C Buds
Thinking of those oil additives you see on T.V. like Slick Fifty, Motor Up ECT., what do you guy's think of this stuff, Are they any good, just a thought. I have a 396 with alot of miles on her there are no knocks just looking for a little insurance.
Thanks Snake

GM still says that their is no proof that any of they additaves pro long motor life.
they say just change your oil 3000 and have the block back flushed at the dealership every 50,000 mi.
i occasainaly put in some upper cylinder head lube (marves mystery oil) in just before changing oil. never put the thick sludge stuff in your motor.
ps. i tried alot of them in an old 327 i had in my 73 nova that was about dead, they are all b.s. nothing can fix worn rings and valve guides.

I know a GM engineer and can repeat what was said about GM and their view. They have switched to synthetics on Corvettes. Synthetics are better. The oil companies say don't mix additives into their formulas. That's what their research Department is for and they claim to put out the best oil formula. But, then you have Pro-Long that Smokey Yunick endorses........I wouldn't argue with him either. No Way. Who do you listen to is what it comes down to I guess. I think that slick-50 and the other stuff is crap myself.

When Slick50 first came out one of the automotive columnists here at the L.A. Times wanted to test their claims. The first thing he did was to have his oil and filter changed using a popular brands. Then he drove his car 3000 miles. He took a sample of the oil and sent it to an independent laboratory for analysis of metal particles. Then he had the oil and filter changed just as before except this time he added Slick50. After driving another 3000 miles he sampled the oil and sent it to the lab. The oil treated with Slick50 had 30 percent less metal particles in it. I believe this is correct, but this old brain doesn't have the memory it used to. The percentage might have been higher. That sold me. Anyway, I can afford twenty bucks every 50,000 miles. On the other hand, I don't think this is a case of "if a little is good then a lot is better". I wouldn't use any more of it than that.
