I heard something last week and wanted to throw it out there, and find out if it is true or BS? If you run aluminum heads, can you run brass freeze plugs? I was told if you did electrolysis happens, which eventually helps to corrode cast iron. TIA, Don. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Very simpliy put electrolysis occures between disimilar metals. As electrons flow from one metal to another a little bit of metal goes with e'm. There is about three chapters of a mechanical engineering text book more to this. Brass is used primarily for it's resistance to rusting.
Try to keep all of the grounding to the iron block. Avoid grounding to alum.

I used to work for a company that made boat motors and they were cooled with salt water; now there was some serious corrosion! Any time there are dissimilar metals, you wil get corrosion. The aluminum will sacrifice to protect the iron and copper will accelerate the process. Ther are some things that can be done; paint the interior of the cooling jacket or paint the brass plugs only. Use a good coolant that has corrosion inhibitors.
