: 65 Malibu or Chevelle?

Picked up a 65 Chevelle SS.Registered as Chevelle. VIN # indicates it is a Malibu.Want to sell the car. Should I advertise as Malibu or Chevelle? Has all SS emblems.Confused. Help!

The Malibu & SS were not separate model designations until the 1966 model year. Therefore it was possible to have a 6cyl SS. It is very possible that your car is a true SS. Someone with more knowledge than I have with 65's would have to fill you in more. Hope that helped.

sorry- it's a 66 not a 65.don't know where my head was at.

netty, 66 cars had definitive VIN's to denote wether they were true SS's or not. Post the VIN so someone can tell you. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

VIN on the 66 is 13617Z143187.I believe 36 is a malibu.I don't want screw the next guy like I have been. What do you call this type of car? Converted malibu? lol http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

36 - 8 cyl malibu, custom el camino or wagon
17 - 2 door sport coupe
Z - Fermont, Cali plant
143187 - the 143187th car out of the plant that year....

Not all Chevelles were Mailbus.
But all Malibus were Chevelles.
