: Alternator reassembly

I took my alternator apart to inspect it and clean up the case. Surprisingly the bearings and brushes were in great shape so I opted to keep them.

I am going to reassemble it however I am not sure what type of grease I should use on the front the bearing. The original grease looked like wheel bearing grease. Can I use the same wheel bearing grease that I use on my front discs for this bearing?

A high temp grease should do the trick. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

richr, Since you already have the alt apart, why not put new bearings in. They are cheap and easy to do. Just mt 0.02.

Leo,

Thks for the advice, I called my parts guy today and ordered the bearings, brushes and diodes. What the heck, got it all apart may as well replace everything.
