: 750 EDELBROCK CARB ON 70 396
DAVID IN GA Dec 5th, 00, 5:21 PM 2 Carb questions guys & gals.... My carb runs rich when started cold-no starting problems, just rich after startup--am I blind or does this carb not have a choke pulloff? It's hard to find a happy medium between a lean and rich stat setting and it doesn't seem that there's anything to pull the choke blade open except for natural warmup from the electric stat, which takes some time depending on outside temp.
Secondly, several times in cold weather I've noticed that the gas pedal suddenly hits bottom-only half way to the floor. The throttle arm cam on the carb somehow rotates around 180+ degrees and then won't let the cable pull the throttle wide open. I just pull up on the cam and rods and it drops back into place.
This problem seems to happen only in cold weather and is very sporadic. Any ideas on why this occurs and how to stop it?
Jarret Grathwol Dec 6th, 00, 12:28 AM Does the carb have a choke at all?
My car does the same thing, but has no choke.
How does it run after 5 or 10 minutes? Should be fine, just rough starts

leeds Dec 6th, 00, 6:55 AM I am running an Edelbrock q-jet on my 396, and it runs rich on startup. The car has always been cold blooded; after it warms up it runs great. Is yours the q-jet? No linkage problems though
Mytmouse Dec 6th, 00, 9:27 AM Edelbrock Q-jet??? Am I missing something here or do you mean Rochester Q-jet??

Mytmouse Dec 6th, 00, 4:42 PM I knew Edelbrock made replacements but do they call it an Edelbrock Q-jet?? Spreadbore carb direct replacement? Hooks up to all stock Q-jet peripherals like fuel line, linkage etc? Just curious as I will be removing my Holley and adapter this spring and replacing with a Q-jet but most likely of the Rochester vintage but would like to keep my options open.

DAVID IN GA Dec 6th, 00, 6:11 PM yes, the carb has a choke. As I said, it starts fine. Can sit for a week and fires up after the first turn over. But it doesn't have a vacuum break and I feel this is what makes it so rich until the electric stat opens up which takes a few minutes.
It is not a qjet style-just a plain 750.
Any ideas out there?
leeds Dec 6th, 00, 10:29 PM My Edelbrock q-jet is a direct replacement, divorced choke that I got from Summit. Now I'm not sure what you mean by "vacuum break"- so I am clearly not a carb expert, but I ran a vacuum line from the bottom front to the dist vacuum advance. At the Goodguys show Edelbrock had a tent setup, and theres a lot of different carbs they make. I will check the box for the part # if you want, I just put the original carb in the box,
