Sorry for the caps fellas, this is getting close to being the straw that breaks the mules (me) back!

When I first started my BB buildup I wante3d to know what all I need and what all i could use off of my late model SB 350.

In the beginning I was told:
Alternator was a direct swap including brackets
PS pump I could use but would need new brackets
Flex-plate I could use
Pulleys I could re-use
Fan-shroud and fan I could re-use

NOW I FIND THAT:
Alt. will need special BB brackets
I hope to god I can use the is PS pump!!
Flew plate hole is about 1/4" to small!!
Pulleys, I am crossing my finger on those, they have the "wide" belt for the alt.
Fan-shroud, I am going electric and the fan I got is big enough to cool a HOUSE!, and with a long water pump I am gonna have to do some enginneering (cutting) to make it work.

I am also hoping that my originally a 307 car doesn't still have the 307 frame mounts causign me to lose hood clearance.

Oh yeah, I get to re-use my Water neck! woo-hoo http://www.chevelles.com/forum/cool.gif

Ive done this lots of times! You need BB brackets for the alternator for sure, you can mod the small block ps bracket (cut the rear half off the cradle and bolt up to the water pump with just the front half) you can use the 307 frame and engine mounts no problem...I always use BB pullies, so I dont know if they swap over. Flex plate definately swaps over, but if it is the small 307 flexplate dont use it, get the larger 14" one so you can use the correct starter nose with the BB. SB shroud is not going to work, it will be to deep and will need mods to work. This is why you are always bucks up to buy a complete BB to build with all the correct brackets, pullies, etc..just makes life much easier. but you will get through it...

drptop70 got it. The frame mounts are the same so that is not going to hurt the hood clearance. I have looked into putting a bbc into my 70 and that is what I found. Thats why I have a bbc sitting in the shop wigh all of the brackets on it (even the A/C http://www.chevelles.com/forum/cool.gif ) Its a lot more work than you thought isnt it?
Good luck!!!

Doug, I don't get it http://www.chevelles.com/forum/confused.gif

Do you mean my birthday on the 7th?

Mike: if you need to "borrow" brackets, we can do that. I can ship them out as long as you ship them back to me at one point. So you can get your 402 running because I don't need them yet.

Lev, I ordered up some brackets. $90 total. What's another 90 when I have dropped over $4k into it all....

I am also getting the external MSD 6AL setup for HEI, I decided to screw the whole "keeping it interal" route.

Hey Mike you must know the Summit and Jeg's guys on a first name basis. Are you gonna get customer of the month award or what? My advice is spend it now while your living at home and no wife and kids. Things will slow down after that.

Mike, you're a trooper. Actually, my old man bought me a MSD 6A box for my birthday. So I'll be using that. And I'm keeping the internal coil. But I need that stupid low-resistance bushing. Also, $90 for all the brackets ain't bad at all! But they're not numbers matching http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

I posted on another topic, but Mike's deadline is the 6th, Lev's B-day is the 7th, and mine is the 8th. I said he would get it in on the 6th, test fire and fine tune some on the 7th, and take a real test drive on the 8th!

Mike,

Don't make me come over there........

Hang in there, Mike. It will be worth it. If you need help call me. Don't know if I can help much but I sure would like to watch you pulling your hair out! You got any left? http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Mr. Ackman70, you sure did hit the nail on the head! Mike, do it now. Enjoy it now. Spend it now! Not that you can't enjoy Chevelles when family and kids come along, but cars have to take a back-seat to the family. Hope everybody else feels that way. My oldest kid is five and guess what? I maybe have driven my Chevelle five times in the last five years! Luckily the Vette came along to give me my rat fix every now and then.

Don't hesitate to call. And don't panic! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
