: What backing plates for these spindles?

I am restoring a 66 SS396. It has a front disc conversion kit. I need new backing plates and can't figure out which ones to order. I have the following part #'s for the spindles:
371676 RH
371675 LH

Single piece rotor, single piston caliper.

For what year should I order the plates?

I looked in the Year One catalog, they want 109/pr.

OPG wants 69/pr. (around there somewhere)
A few other catalogs list them for around 70/pr.

Are the Year One plates any different? Are they $30 better?

Hey ETD,
The purpose of the backing plates is to protect the inside surface of the disc from rocks or other stuff jambing, chips, mud, etc. So I wouldn't think that the more $$ one would make a difference. I just went through a conversion on my 65 and the backing plates that I got were cad plated presumable for protection from the elements. I guess if the less $$ weren't plated, a good coat of paint or even a powder coat would do the same. mgg

I agree with Manny. Year One just usually costs more so I would go with OPG. The cadium plating is also the original finish for the backing plates. It's really no big deal unless you're going for a perfectly original car. I would just find a cheap pair and paint them black, since they are only to protect the brakes from rocks, debris, etc. Good Luck!

A salesman at Year One told me they buy a lot of stuff from OPG, but they send a buyer to pick out the best stuff. If OPG probably has the remanufacturing rights to them?? I'd try OPG first these should be the same remember some people will buy the higher price item thinking that it's better and sometimes they're right, but with the backing plates, I'd say they're the same.
