You know when you stand on a pop can on end, put all your weight on it, and then all the sudden, crunch, it instanteously flattens to the ground? That's how my the accelerator pedal feels when I get into the mechanical secondaries on my 4150.

I have seen those kits with different cam shapes in a rainbow of colors. It looks like some of the different shapes would make the transition a little more gradual and progressive, versus the toggle switch effect I have now.

Question: If the cam shape is changed, which affects the rate at which the secondaries open with respect to the position of the primaries, are any jetting changes or accelerator pump changes required?

Ya know, I know how how I want it to feel. Why cant I just workover the cam I have now with my Dremel tool?

if you look real close at the cam on the primary and secondary sides of your carb, you will see that they only operate the accel pump lever,a rod operates the secondarys conected to the trottle arm, I would look for binding linkage from pedal to secondarys throughout. sometimes your throttle plates can hang up in the bores.or,dont get me wrong ,I like a heavy return spring, but,to heavy a spring can cause this, try a slightly lighter return spring.sometimes where the linkage is installed in the trottle arm can cause this,if it is just above or even of the arms axis it will have a feeling like- push,no go push a little more ,some more and snap it goes almost out of control, kinda like that coke can thing ya said. well hope this helps, have a good one.67rat member #199

67RAT, you're right. Duh, Ken. It has been a while since I looked closely at it, I've been working through other issues with the car, this was going to be my next. Thanks for setting me straight.

As for springs, I wanted to lighten up the pedal feel, so I took one of the two springs off to see how it would be. I tested it in the garage with the motor off, and a couple of times it stuck wide open! I'll take the stiff pedal feel, thank you!

I like the stiff pedal feel also, after a while ya get used to it,If you think theres a problem, I would look into it. I would not like to see your throttle go wide open and stay there, this happened to me years ago in a 70 327 eqiped ss nova, what a wild ride trying to halt that beast, well good luck with your chevelle, good day.67rat member #199
