Alright, I've had my chevelle for over 2 years now and there has always been a rattling almost every time I start to drive slowly. It only lasts for a short while and doesn't always happen. I am pretty sure that it is the flywheel tapping something, but I know that it isn't the flywheel cover. I've checked that already.
On occasion I can hear the tinking when it is idling, but not often.
Any advice about my problem or what to do would be greatly appreciated.

It could be that is has a small crack,I've replaced 3-4 that where this way and each had a different sound.

I too have replaced many, it seems to occur mostly at idle, in gear. Goes away in neutral. They seem to crack around the crank bolt holes. Do your self a favor, replace it weather you see any cracks or not, it's to much trouble to pull it down a second time.

remove the convertor cover and look up inside, most of the time if it is cracked you can see it. Look for a shiney spot where the metal could be rubbing also.
The flexplate can be changed without removing the trans from the car. Unbolt the torque convertor and slide it back, then unbolt the bellhousing bolts. Put a floor jack under the trans and a support under the engine, then unbolt the crossmember from the frame. Now stick a pry bar between the engine and trans and shove it back. You should now be able to remove the flex plate. I only had one where the driveshaft needed removed, normally there is enough slip to move it several inches. I was shown this by an old flat rate mechanic, he said the service writer didn't like him so he got all the crummy jobs, so he learned ways to still make money inspite of it.
