I am wondering if anyone knows of a manual transmission that will handle 600+ pounds of torque and drag strip action with slicks? Seems all the really fast guys have autos and that is what the aftermarket mainly modifies to make stronger. I have already looked at the Richmond 5 speed and I think its rated for 450 ft. lbs. and the 6 speed is the same. Comments?

Give Jerico a call @ 704-782-4343 and hold on to your wallet, $3000+.

Is that my only choice? I can thrash a lot of four speeds for that kind of price!

Ford t&c, aka top loader. They can handle more torque than ANY of the GM 4 speeds. The Richmond transmissions are basicaly super T-10s with more gears.

What would I have to do to put a top loader in my 67 chevelle? Have any idea what kind of power they can take? Man I would hate to use Ford stuff! My tranny I'm running now is a Rock Crusher, does anyone know how much torque they are rated to handle?

Lakewood used to make a Chev scattershield with the Ford bolt pattern.

Street_Racer_502,

Now you see why most of us drag racers run autos(other than consitency) and the TH400 in particular. I would love to row the gears in my car, but the cost of the Jerico or similar tranny are not within my budget either. A TH400 with good clutches, 34 element sprag, and valvebody mods will easily endure years of service in your car. In fact many I've spoken to say that the above mods will handle around 800+ HP. I inted to find out for myself in the not so distant future.

Good Luck,
