Could someone help me out and comment on whether it is possible to use the standard fuel tank pick-up tube with an electric fuel pump for a Gen V 454 putting out 505 h.p.?
Thanks in advance for the advice!

I did it with a Holley Blue pump and a 440HP 502. It worked fine.

As long as you have the 3/8 size line at the pickup / sending unit you will be fine. I am running the ZZ502 with the standard 3/8 size line and a small electric pump (GM) with no problems. I believe the 6 cylinder cars came with the smaller 5/16 size line, that might be a problem.

These guys are right and I'd also suggest that you gravity feed your new fuel pump...don't let it syphon gas up and out of the tank thru your stock pickup tube...aftermarket pumps are designed to push gravity fed fuel to the engine, and not pull gas up and out of a tank. I made that mistake on a new Mallory Comp140 pump and it lasted a little over a year before the brushes went to toast and I was calling a tow truck 15 miles from the house! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/mad.gif Fortunately, Mallory sells a brush replacement kit http://www.chevelles.com/forum/cool.gif .

I got rid of the stock tank and added an RCI fuel cell in the trunk - now my pump is gravity fed and has had two years of service with no more problems. You can also weld in a deep sump into the bottom of your stock tank - Jeg's and Summit sells em'.

With those deep sumps, do I just cap off the pipes?
Will my fuel guage sender still work right?
I need a new float assy. With a deep sump kit, what should I buy for a float unit?

Thanks.

Dale, you should not need a new sending unit if you plan to just weld in (be careful around that 22 gallon bomb - maybe get a shop to do this) a deep sump into your stock tank. It will work the same as before so if your old one is shot, then just order a stock replacement sending unit. Seal off the stock fuel tank pickup tube with JBWeld and you'll be good to go.
