My buddy just got a restorable 68 ss 396 auto chevelle and it has chrome signal indicators on the end of each fender and he was told they were experimental fibre optic indicators.Anyone ever see these cause I have not,are they rare??

Well no there not experimental, but they are some what rare. They could be ordered on chevelle from 67-70 ( including camaro,impala). There should also be a rear portion of the option which is located on the rear package tray to monitor rear lights. If they work thats great, I just restored my whole setup and it was a costly adventure. If you have any other question, ask away

Nice find! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif This is a RARE and sought after option. It was available from 1967 to 1970. It was dubbed "the VIGILITE lamp monitoring system" by Chevrolet.
The hardest part is having missing pieces or the bezels themselves. Fiber optics can be purchased from supply and surplus houses.
The assembly manuals are very helpful when it comes time to re-route the fiber optics in the factory fasion.
