: Tools for Chevelle Owners
mobiletools Jan 14th, 01, 8:26 AM Hi, Chevelle Owners - I'm a '69 Camaro owner visiting your site from Team Camaro. Chevelle owners who ordered tools from my distribution company suggested I post here. They said other Chevelle owners could use tools I offer for their projects. For a free catalog with a 10% discount, e-mail me with your address.
Does anyone own a Chevelle with a GM ZZ-502/502 crate motor?
I'm curious your times in the 1/4?
I put one in my 69 Camaro this year and haven't been to the track yet. I put in a Hughes T-400, 2800 stall, Denney"s al. drive shaft, and a Currie 9" rear with 3:70 gears.
Thanks for your answers, Bob

BB_Mike Jan 14th, 01, 1:05 PM Thanks for the offer. Personally, I'm to broke to even by parts, much less tools.
As for the 502 performance. I did a search in our "performance" section and came up with this. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/Forum4/HTML/002373.html
He ran an 11.8 @ 113mph
You can pull low 11s with that little ol' Camaro http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif Glad to have you aboard.

mobiletools Jan 17th, 01, 7:57 PM Thanks again Mike,
Wes posted a reply about the tires he uses behind his 502. He goes with the 275 60 BFG. I run the same, The first set last about 4 weeks. I'm curious what you are using with power of your Big Block.
Thanks, Bob

street_racer_502 Jan 17th, 01, 9:58 PM I have a 67 Chevelle SS with a ZZ502 and a four speed with 4:10 gears, but haven't made it to the drag strip with it yet. I have ran it with a G-Tech and best time was 0-60 in 3.86 and 1/4 mile in 12.1 @ 123 mph.

What kind of tires were you running when you did the time with the G-Tech?

BB_Mike Jan 20th, 01, 10:32 AM Mobile,
I run 275/60 Radial T/As on 15" craggar SS wheels. These tires are worth crap at the track and wear like hockey pucks. While it's nice to have a long lasting tire, it stinks to HAVE to 60' greater thaan a 2.0 do only to traction. Posi 3.73 also.
Converter stall also helps to get our cars out of the hole, don't over look that when comparing cars. I run an ATI streetmaster 10" and love it. Don't much like the pricetag, but racing isn't cheap.

street_racer_502 Jan 21st, 01, 10:40 AM Mobile,
I was running 305/50/15 M & H RaceMasters at the time. I am running a four speed with 4:10 gears and was still spinning the tires through second gear. I have since put on MT ET Streets (28 x 11.50) SSM Lift bars, and drag shocks all around but haven't been able to run it again yet.
mobiletools Jan 23rd, 01, 3:56 PM Those are some big tires to stuff in the wheel wells, I have the 275's and rub a bit over the bumps. That's a Camaro for you, You have more room there. What's the weight of your car?
The torque is really good on these motors, I hear you about 2nd gear.

street_racer_502 Jan 23rd, 01, 4:33 PM Mobile, not exactly sure but I believe the weight of a 67 Chevelle is around 3650 lbs. Mine would be less than that though with my fiberglass hood and aluminum heads though. I love the torque and throttle response of the ZZ engine, just wish it had a bit more top end. A cam change is definately in the future for me! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

street_racer_502 Jan 24th, 01, 9:48 PM Man, don't I know it Gene! Plus I love the sound of a solid cam! (Goes back to when I was running the 396/375 hp engine)

BADSS Feb 7th, 01, 8:34 PM Thanks for the links. I'm getting my rollcage put in the first of march so everything should line up nicely. Lets just hope the weather complies.
mobiletools Feb 8th, 01, 5:37 PM I keep thinking springs comming. We got hit with 18" of the white stuff 2 days ago. Thanks for the info on the tire sizes. I'm getting ready to buy a couple of sets to keep in the garage. I like extras around to do a quick change.
March is around the corner.
BADSS what Co. did you go with?

Wes Colby Feb 8th, 01, 9:16 PM Mobiletools, with the lighter weight of your car try to pack in as much rubber as physically possible. I've only been to an 1/8 mile track once with this modified 502 and the best ET that night was a 7.78 @ 94.97mph with a miserable 60' of 1.97. The ET stank but she pulled like a freight train once it hooked. At the time, I was using M/T ET Street 28X11.5X15's but it needed more tire to hook...that and driving around the water box. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif
Sooo, you like those cubes, eh? Nothing quite like big-cube low rpm torque.

bill henry Feb 8th, 01, 10:34 PM wes, i thought that you were running 295/65/15 bfg drag radials? did you change?
BADSS Feb 8th, 01, 11:31 PM I don't yet have the specifics on the roll cage as I still need to go out to this guy's shop. But he came highly recommended from Northwest Performance. I'll keep everyone up to date and take some pics too.

mobiletools Apr 27th, 01, 8:48 PM I'm going to try and stuff a little bit bigger tire in the w/wells.
Yes, the motor is awesome with the torque. People find it very amusing.
Our club has a Dyno day this comming Sat. and I'm currious what I'm getting at the rear wheels.
