Where does the tach-lead of a points-style tach connect to? if its to the negative terminal on the coil then it will work. (I suspect thats how it is??)

70SS454, Is your tach a GM in-dash tach, if it is, just hook it up to the tach connection on the dist and see if it works. My brother-in-law did and the tach works fine, but some of them need some kind of buffer in the circuit to work correctly.
Mike; On the HEI cap, there is a connecter just for the tach and it has the word TACH molded into the cap.

chev64: re-read my post, I didnt ask for info on the HEI... I know the HEIs very well and the tach lead on the cap goes right to ground... thats why I asked if the points tach connects to the coil ground also and if so, it will work.

Early tachs used a pos. signal to read RPM. The HEI give a ground pulse signal for the tach. Some will work and some won't accept this type of signal. Later factory tachs will use either signal.
