This is a real techy kind of question. I have a '72 chevelle that came originally with a turbo 350 trans. I sold the motor and trans out of it to be replaced by a '72 402 w/ a Turbo 400. I believe my Malibu has 3.73 in the rear end by performing the test by spinning one of the rear tires two revolutions to get the approximate ratio.

Now, in order to set my speedo correctly on the new 400 What would the number of teeth on the driven and drive gear be??????

Measure your tire height and go to :
www.chevelles.com/shop/speedo.html (http://www.chevelles.com/shop/speedo.html)

with the T400 you'll be looking at the big gear.

Remove your driven gear and count the teeth. To get a reasonable result, get a new gear which has a tooth count approximately .846 times the current one.

I appreciate all the response. With the information I was able to determine the correct size. Thanks again.
