we to the slavage yard looking for some parts, looked under a early 70's chevy truck and it had 12 bolt can somebody give the low down on this? are the guts the same as a chevelle?

If its a truck rear it will be a different carrier/internals than the passenger 12 bolt rear.

I'll second that...not interchangeable!

12 bolt rear-ends in trucks were fairly common, especially in HD versions of the 1/2 tons, and therefore not worth much either.
