: parts for my 69
1969BIGBLOCK Mar 2nd, 00, 5:21 PM well i put my baby, my 69 396 chevelle, in the body shop this morning for a little custom work, and i was debating a cowl induction hood, maybe 3", i can't find any pictures of a 68 or 69 with a cowl hood however, if anyone has one, or knows where i can see one, plean email me MDRNPERF@AOL.COM, I also am looking for 2 new bumpers, chrome, and some window trim, any suggestions for the highest quality? thanks, geoff
kieran Mar 2nd, 00, 6:00 PM I also have a 69 chevelle. It's a malibu
with a 396 big block. My personal opinion
is the the 69 chevelle's do not look good
with the cowl induction hood. But i do realize that engine clearence can be an issue. Sorry don't know of any picture of
the cowl on a 69. I've seen some 69 chevelle's with cowl's on them at car shows
and it just don't flow. good luck.
ratuned Mar 2nd, 00, 6:33 PM I have a 2 1/2" cowl hood on my 1969. it has a box under it and I use a repo cowl induction air cleaner. most people I have run into seem to like it. in a recent comp cams add there is a picture od an orange 69 with a cowl hood. good luck
fridge Mar 2nd, 00, 7:22 PM In the late 70's I put a stock Malibu hood on my SS, the original had a nice dent in the front, purchased a L88 hood scoop from JC Whitney. I had a body shop fiberglass it to the hood with the back edge contoured to match the windshield. It looked great but the fiberglass or bondo used on the job kept bubbling. I found and original hood and gave the other away, If I can find any old pics I will e-mail them to you. Grant

Wes Briscoe Mar 2nd, 00, 11:25 PM ratuned- what did you use as the box underneath your hood?
I've got a 2 1/2" cowl hood on my 69SS. I got it from Unlimited Products (www.up22.com). It isn't bad, its a bit cheaper than a Harwood, but still acceptable. The car deffinatly looks different.
I think anything bigger than a 3" cowl looks odd on a 69. The front of the car curves down too much in my opinion..makes it look like you've got a ski jump on the front of your car. it deffinatly has function.
i have not found a good place to get repo bumpers for a 69. a resto company is supposed to be producing some in the future, but that could be a long time. I've seen some good deals on usable bumpers on ebay..

1969BIGBLOCK Mar 3rd, 00, 8:46 AM Thanbks to eveyone for their help. i own a performance parts tore in ct, and if there is anything anyone needs, don't hesitate to ask. thanks again. MODERN PERFORMANCE 203 878 5961, MDRNPERF@AOL.COM, GEOFF
ratuned Mar 3rd, 00, 4:04 PM I ordered the box from unlimited and molded to the bottom of the hood. it comes not cut and you must cut the hole. the whole air cleaner seals just like the factory on a 1970 cowl induction I run a 4" K&N filter with a substack. I'm using an edelbrock C-396 intake with a 1" spacer. It is a little tight when closed but when I install the 454 I'm gonna eliminate the 1" and use the NOS cheater plate only(1/2"). It looks good and I also put on 1970 COWL INDUCTION emblems.

ratuned Mar 3rd, 00, 4:10 PM wes,
another idea I played with was to order an L-88 or a custom hood with a big block corvette scoop(67-69). I think that the L-88 hood with the L-88 air cleaner assembly and box would look killer. I kinda like the factory look even if it didn't come stock but looks like a possible prototype. good luck

smokumchevy Mar 3rd, 00, 5:48 PM Hey Geoff,
Harwood makes em in fibreglass bolton or liftoff. There's supposed to be a new one out this year that uses your original springs and arms. I just ordered mine (4"cowl outlaw hood), through Canadian Tire beleive it or not, from their performance catalogue.
I know summit carries them as well but they don't show any pics on their website:
http://www.summitracing.com/index.htm
but from there you can request some pics I wld imagine.
Good luck.
