: Chevrolet info for your car?
Doug Garland Mar 1st, 00, 9:20 PM I know there has been several posts about calling Chevrolet, and getting a resto packet for your cars. How long did it take for you guys to get your papers? I've called 4 times, the first was BEFORE Thanksgiving, and still no papers. I've got a ' 72, and been told everytime, it will be out in 4-6 weeks. I'm going to call back tomorrow, and ask to speak to a supervisor, and try to get the story this time. Any problems like this for any of you?

They told me it would be a week to 10 days. They lied http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif I got it by priority mail in 4 http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif. The packet for my camaro took about a week. Doug I think that asking to talk to a supervisor is a good idea.
BTW- For those who are going to ask, the number is 1-800-222-1020. Ask for a restoration packet. Some "customer service reps" who answer will have no idea what you are talking about. Be persistent, ask for a supervisor.

Thanks!
richr Mar 2nd, 00, 1:55 PM I just ordered one today, they said 8 - 10 weeks. By that time the car may be finished. Anyway, as Uncle asked, what does this packet contain?

rt66jt Mar 2nd, 00, 8:16 PM I'm going to join those on this thread asking for clarification-what is a resto packet? What's included? Are they available for all years? What info must I supply? I never heard of these; are they similar to what's available from Pontiac Historical Service ( sorry, used to own a Pontiac years ago)?
JodySirmans Mar 2nd, 00, 8:32 PM I ordered one for my 71 about a year ago and got it in less than a week. It includes option information, statistics, etc. and where the GM lic. repo shops are.

mild68ss Mar 2nd, 00, 8:50 PM i just called yesterday to get a packet.
i gave the v.i.n. for the chevelle and the elcamino. i was given a file number for future reference. i'll let you know if i receive it soon.
Chev_327 Mar 2nd, 00, 9:19 PM if you would pardon my ignorance i am with the one guy who doesnt know what a resto pack is , and what is the number to call to get one and how much are they and are they available for 1968? any help would be appreciated
I called Chevrolet the other day and was told that I should have my resto package in about 8 weeks. I also inquired about any factory documentation on my particular car (knowing that probably none exists). To my surprise, I was asked for the VIN, assembly plant and date of delivery to original dealer as well as the dealers name. I was told that more information was available now from the Heritage Center and that some research would have to be performed to obtain it. They provided two file numbers for future inquiries and assured me that I would be contacted by phone as soon as possible. Probably too good to be true, but it was worth the asking.

Chvelle Mar 3rd, 00, 12:59 AM Doug, Try their customer assistance page http://www.chevrolet.com/gmnav/contact_us/index.htm and tell them to send you one. You can vent to them there also. I ordered mine through the site, then had a brain fart and reordered over the phone. Got two of them within two days, (after waiting two weeks after emailing the first order to call them)
IF you ever get it, you won't be disappointed

mr409 Mar 3rd, 00, 7:04 AM Im still waiting for mine too. It's been almost 3 months now and I was told I should have it in 3 weeks! I was on the phone for 45 minutes and half of that time was spent trying to "explain to them" what a restoration pack was. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/mad.gif
I recently sent a letter snail mail to:
Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center
Hobby and Sales Group
P.O. Box 7047
Troy, MI 48007
Maybe that will work. (don't forget to send your info like VIN and type of car, etc if you go this route)
Good luck, you'll probably need it.

283v8 Mar 3rd, 00, 12:08 PM I got one for my 64 elky and one for my 64 fullsize about 1 1/2 years ago. Also has cutaway views of various parts, option codes, dimensions, specifications, interior codes - lots and lots of good info.. Well worth getting. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Vitriol Mar 7th, 00, 10:13 AM I called the end of last week after seeing this thread, and they said there is a charge for this(!?). She couldn't tell me how much they would bill me for though. I questioned her on the charge, making sure it wasn't a mistake, and she said they had just had a meeting about it. Is this a new thing? I didn't see anything in these threads to indicate a charge. I'll let you know how much they are charging me if I get a bill...
Just an F.Y.I.
Doug Garland Mar 7th, 00, 11:08 AM It's free, I guess that's why they don't get in a hurry to get it out to you! They do have a packet that's a charge, but this one is free.

Has anyone been able to get any specific information on your vehicle? I'm sure these packets are interesting but this information is readily available from other sources correct? I want info. on my vehicle and I'd be willing to pay pay pay!

MR454SS Mar 7th, 00, 10:38 PM By what that I have been told,American built cars cant get specific info on their cars yet,but the lucky ones like mine that were built in Oshawa,Canada can send in $40.00 and they will tell you what options came out on your particular chevelle and I believe also what dealer it was shipped to along with other cool stuff.I am getting ready in the next couple of days to order mine and when I get it im going to use it my car show displays. Maybe another member has more info on this and they can share it with all of us!
Dwayne Martin Mar 8th, 00, 5:20 AM I too recieved my restoration packet. It was interesting, but not a lot of help. I would not complain too much about the amount of time it takes to receive your packet.....remember that it's free. If they get too many complaints, they may discontinue the service.
elky72ss454 Mar 13th, 00, 4:00 PM Well I got my restoration packet today. Took about one month to recieve it. It's not exactly what I expected, http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif but it is an informative package. Just thought I'd let you guys know. Cost nothing & they did not ask for my vin # or any other info. Other than my mailing address. All I can say is be patient. wait, wait, wait, & wait some more....c-ya http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
Doug Garland Mar 13th, 00, 7:55 PM Well, Got mine in the mail today also. Bob, you should be next!

Dave K... I will let you know what info I receive from them. However, I am not too optimistic about them telling me much about my specific car and its options, despite the fact that the person I talked to said that he could with their "new" records service. I think he is probably mistaken although I've heard that there is some car specific information available and that GM or someone has access to it but is not for "public" consumption. It's worth a try at any rate.

You'd think they would be more forthcoming with that information. I'm sure people would be willing to pay to get that information. I know I would! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Your right Doug, got one today.
I asked for this pack for 3 different cars but the one they sent today was for a my 69 Chevelle. It cost them 3.20 to ship it! It was about 1/2" thick.
Maybe the other 2 are out there somewhere too.
I can't believe they do this for free. Not even asking for the shipping? It's not very often you get something for nothing in this world.
Better hurry up guys, before they start charging! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif
