: How much is 70SS Conv. Clone Worth?
Bruce_S Nov 7th, 00, 7:16 PM I have a 70SS convertible clone that I may be selling soon. It has all the proper pieces such as big block, disc brakes, proper dashboard w/ gauge option, rear bumper,SS wheels,12 bolt w/ boxed arms and swaybar. It is black w/ white stripes and interior. It's a bench seat auto. Very nice and straight. What's it worth? I had a salesman at one lot offer me $13,500.
427L88 Nov 7th, 00, 7:24 PM I was going to say, exactly what a Malibu would be 11K-13K or so, but you have nice upgrades. 13.5K sounds close to wholesale.
slicksty7 Nov 7th, 00, 7:31 PM No body here can truly answer that because we haven't looked at it.And appearance is the only attribution of a clone if you seek top dollar. In sept. of this year I saw a 67 ss clone conv. the asking price was 19,500 this was a very sharp car---show quality in fact! It all depends on what you feel it's worth.
greekboy Nov 7th, 00, 7:40 PM I believe that in cases such as classic cars or other valuable vehicles, there is no certain rule about how much the car worths. Many people have disagreed with me in the past but I believe that if you have put 500 hours of bloody and sweaty labor on a car (like I have done on mine!) as well as countless sleepless nights and, of course, quite a few thousands of dollars to buy parts, it would be a heresy to sell the car for what some cheap moron wants to pay. I would wait until the right person comes along, someone who will appreciate the value of the vehicle as well as the factors mentioned above, and who will in turn provide a nice home for it. If he/she can not appreciate the car, he/she does not deserve to own it. I have a pristine 69 SS on which I have spent more than $15,000 and the other day while I was pumping gas, I had an idiot coming and asking me if I would be interested to sell the car to him for 1,000 bucks. That is for a car which has gotten offers for $20,000 from other people in the past. Obviously the guy just wanted to give it a shot, hoping that it would be his lucky day.

d1_bradley Nov 8th, 00, 8:10 AM The fact that a "salesman" offered you wholesale on your car means one thing, he has a buyer at retail. Might just put it in the paper and see if that buyer calls you.
Say Bruce sounds like a car I might be interested in, your e-mail's got a problem. Contact me. Jerry
A 70 Convertible, with a big block, SS or not, is a SPICY number. if the body is rust free, the paint is good and fresh, and the interior is nice, I wouldn't settle for the 13 you were offered. Like d1_bradley says, if you're really interested on selling the car, put it in the paper and see what you get.
RADAIR1 Nov 8th, 00, 7:53 PM My neighbor just sold one for $7000. She couldn't wait until I got back from my overseas tour. She said she would hold it until I got back. Guess it wasn't meant to be.
My best friend has a 70 conv (SS clone) also. Been sitting in a garage for about six years or so. New eng, trans, brakes, top, int, diff, sheetmetal, the works. Only thing it needs is paint. If anyone is interested ill get some pics and see what he wants for it. He hasnt even driven it since he broke in the new motor http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif CHRIS
