Can someone explain the difference between a 300 and a 300 Deluxe. I just bought a 300 4dr sedan 55,000 miles with a 283, p/g, p/s, and am radio, I found the build sheet and the only option on the car was the p/g. Is this a 300 or a deluxe model?

Assuming V8 cars, a Chevelle 300 would have a serial # that would start out with 132697.., whereas a 300 Deluxe would have a serial # 134697...The 300 said 'Chevelle' across the back panel; the 300 Deluxe had a long emblem and a full width chrome (anodized aluminum) moulding at the bottom of the back panel over the bumper. The 300 Deluxe also added rocker mouldings, chrome drip rails. The quarter panel carried similar emblems that would either say '300' or '300 deluxe'. Inside the 2 were very similar. The 300 Deluxe had a colour-keyed rubber floor mat instead of just a black one. The 300 Deluxe also has a full width bright moulding across the top of the dash; the 300 didn't use the moulding (it used little circular labels around the light controls, wiper controls etc.
On the build sheet would list M35 for the Powerglide, but if it was factory-equipped with the other options you would see N40 for p/s, U63 for AM radio. Incidently P57 is the base tire and may appear

Thanks Cam, lots of great info, the odd thing is the build sheet only has the W35 as an option, I guess the dealer installed the p/s and am radio.
