Basic UPS shouldn't cost you much more than $7-$10 per rim, assuming they don't have tires on them.

If you need boxes, find one of those mailing stores, like Mail Boxes, etc. and they should be able to sell you some that'll fit.

actually they do have tires on them. 8" wide and 27" tall.

So price will be a bit more.

will they take them loose or do they have to be boxed?

They'll have to be boxed.

Tires add quite a bit of weight to the package. I suggest you do this:

Take 1 and weigh it on a bathroom scale. Then go to the UPS web site and there you'll find a cost estimater. Plug in the starting & ending point, along with the weight and see what you get. I think that the USPS has a similar feature on their site too.

Also, they all have weight restrictions, so don't try to box them all together. You may get away with 2 per box, but more than that will probably be too much. Their specific limits should be on the web sites as well.

thanks for the tips. It doesn't sound that bad. Some people just make it sound difficult to ship tires. Maybe they just don't want the hassle or the expense.

Thanks again

When high performance mail order joints like Tire Rack send out a wheel/tire package, they take two mounted wheel/tires, put the nice sides of the wheels facing each other, and band them together. With the faces of the wheels towards the insides, the faces of the wheels you will see when they are on car can't get beat up during shipping. They don't uses boxes, and the tires can certainly withstand getting jostled around.

I just shipped a set of 4ea 14" SS wheels with tires from Houston to Kansas via USF Dugan motor fright. 188#'s cost 75.00. Motor freight is the cheepest and best way to go on wheels and tires. 4 wheels with tires stacked 2 X 2 on a 2' X 4'pallet works perfect.

I am trying to swing a deal on some budnik trilogy II wheels and tires.

They are 17x8s with 235 45 17s.

If I can swing it, they will go on my LT1 caprice.

I am tired of the grandpa look after only 30 days with the car. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I lowered the back 2" and plan to do the front soon. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

The deal is soooo sweet that I am willing to pay shipping.

Mr D, I tried the reverse. I had five wheels with tires mounted that I was trying to move from Provo to Houston. I finally brought them back in a U-Haul with a bunch of other stuff I had left in storage in Provo. UPS wanted way too much (more than the wheels and tires cost me) and US Mail would not do it. If everything else fails call Tom Kirkham Sr. of "TKO". He may know of an inexpensive shipper. He has stuffed shipped from all over the US and the world. He may know of someone. P.S. He is not a shipper. He owns the company in Provo that is building the aluminum bodied AC Cobras in Poland. (Hey they only had Ford engines, they weren't really Fords!, and forgive me, everyone, for using the "F" word twice). Good Luck!
