I got a question regarding which header. I have a 66 with a for the most part stock 396. Dynamax does not make a header for the mid 60s Chevelles with the BB. Hooker, Thorley and some of the others do but my question is what do some of the other 66 owners have? And the real question is do any of the 66 owners have a 700r4 behind the 396? I would love to hear from you. Did they fit without a hitch? Somebody talk to me... and thanks to the infamous Gene Chas for all his support over email at work. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I do not know what kind of headers are on my 66 now (they came with the car, and aren't identified), but I have had very good luck with Hooker Headers in the past. They fit without a hitch, and looked good for a long time. I did find in the Original Parts Group catalog, they sell Competition series headers for BBC for around $150.

I have a 66 with a 327/turbo 350 but my friend has a 383 with a 700r4. He told me that it was a pain to get it in and he had to pound out the trans tunnel to get clearance for it. I have read at least two other posts at this site about clearance problems with the 66-67 when installing a 700r4.

Rat Trap, I just put a big block into my 66, I went with Hooker comp headers not the super comps they have a tube that goes over the frame that headers I usrd are fine with one minor problem you need to bend the #5 tube for steering shaft clearance, I would have liked too have used the Headman Shorty header but they fit 68 and up I know they wont fit a 66 I tried, they hit the crossmember. hope this helps Gene........

Gene C,

Thanks. I have a question for anybody that can answer it. If I have to bend one of the tubes, can this be done on ceramic headers? I quessing not. So,, HOW THE HELL DO I GET CERAMIC HEADERSI IN MY 66? I know,,, put them in the trunk. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif

Rat trap,
Jeg's has dynomax hedders listed for 64-77
BBC chevelle. There coated both inside and out and they list for 209.99 and they come with bolts, nuts and reducers, at least that is what is addvertised. I'm in the process of getting a new exhaust for my 66, I did a search in engine and drivetrain and found that these hedders sound like there easy to install and require no massaging. Try a search for big block hedders and you'll get some info on dynomax as well as other brands. I think I'm gonna go with the dynomax myself but wont get around to it till probably the first of the year. Good luck
