: Cleaning dust from your restored compartment

Well, I am almost done completing the rear of the 70. As much as I kept the front half covered dust from sanding etc has made it's way onto my freshly restored front section, control arms, springs etc.

What is the best way to clean this off, I note blowing it with the air compressor really doesn't get it 100%. I thought of gently washing, with a hose, the control arms etc with water and than air drying with the compressor.

Any ideas? Anyone encounter this?

richr! I found the best way is to mix about a capfull of good car wash soap(Blue Coral ect) with water in a large spray bottle and spray the entire engine compartment including the engine and then gently hose it down and blow dry it with compressed air. The car washing liquid is streakless and it won't take any wax off or dull any paint! It even adds a fine luster to polished surfaces and paint. Looks great!

i usually do this job weekly, since i have a daily driver with a frame off restore, i do as above wash with water/soap, lightly, then after it's dry i go over it was a cloth and armour all or something of that nature, so i can get the spots i missed and protect the paint at the same time. works well for me

I use Simple Green. It comes in a bottle that has a "foam" selection on the nozzle. Just wet the engine compartment. I just have the hose slightly over a tricle. Then squirt on some Simple Green on "foam" and wait a few minutes and just rinse lightly/tricle. It will take off all of the dirt and dust as well as any grease and won't harm anything under the hood. It'll make your aluminum intake sparkle. It's also bio-degradable.

I use it to prep parts for painting and to clean heavy mud from my race bike.
