Desert,
Tell me what you know about this screw and I'll try to give some help.
Where did you get the PN?
Where is the screw used?
Anything else you know.

71 Chevelle SS, 454 LS-5.

The screws are used on the screen in the rear of the cowl induction hood.

I need the description so I can get the correct ones at the local store.

Sounds to me like the number got pulled from the assembaly manual. What screws would the rest of you guys use to secure the cowl screen?

Desert,
3893979 is a #8 x 3/8" black phillips trim screw with a special button head which is flat on the under side. I'll try to sent you a scan of a sample.

Be careful of the angle that you install those screws. You could have 6 "bumps" acrossed the back of your hood....Just like mine http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif Though I think that the "correct" screws that I got from a vender where longer than 3/8.

My 70 has phillips screws, but I have seen Hex head bolts, not phillips screws on 71-72 Chevelles.Be it Bulge hood or working cowl hood.Probably used whatver was available at time of production.I believe both to be period correct.Just my .02
