I am not sure what the Castrol +3 oil is, but if it is just ordinary oil and you have not thrashed your trans with it in there, just drain it and replace it. The difficult part is draining the converter. If the +3 is an automatic trans fluid, just drain it and replace what you can.

my understanding is that a number of knowledgeable guys are using type F instead of mercon...

if that castrol +3 is ATF type F (ie if it is atf just wrong type ) you may be better off

i am not familiar with castro +3

Mercon/Dextron III is for chevy/GMC trans
Chrysler has the ATF +3 and Ford uses the ATF type F. I don't really think there is much difference between III and +3.

Just my $.02 so don't sue me http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

All tranny fluids are compatable with one another. You can run any kind you want. Manufactures spec certain fluids to get the shift characteristics they want. With Dextron you get that smooth GM cloud nine shift. Type F gives a chrisper shift.

In an emergency situation you could add motor oil but all the fluid in the tranny should be changed asap.
