Can anyone tell me how many '71 chevelle convertibles were produced? How many were big blocks and how many small blocks. Also, how many had air conditioning? I recently bought a '71 convertible and from what I can tell, it is a malibu with factory air, 350-4bbl, and disk brakes. Also, I am not too familiar with convertibles, so I will ask a stupid question: Are the convertible and coupe back seats different widths? I would think that they are to make room for the power top components. Also, I think my convertible has a wider than normal back seat. One more dumb question: What year did the new style 10-bolt come out in the chevelle? And did the chevelle ever use a posi in 10-bolts in '71?

I can answer one of your questions.
I have seen some of these numbers in books, but don't remember them at this point.
The back seats are narower than the coupe to make room for the hydraulics.

I can answer one more. According to the YO catalog, there were 5089 convertibles built in '71, and all came with a V8. Sorry, but I don't have the big-block/small-block breakdown.

So out of those 5,000 or so convertibles produced in '71, I wonder how many came with air? I have one with air and in good running condition (350/4bbl). I think numbers match, too. It has new front fenders and cowl hood. It also had a new FULL 1/4 panel replaced on passenger side, and 1/2 1/4 panel replaced on drivers side. It has power top and disk brakes. Car is blue with white top. Interior is mismatched, but it has correct chevelle buckets and it is an automatic (TH350). Put it this way, whoever is interested in a good restoration candidate or to drive right off the bat, email me: hbelgard@badlands.nodak.edu
I will have pictures to email next week.

Your question.. "How many convertibles came
equipped with factory air?"
Or one from someone else.."How many Marina Blue SS396's with 4-spd, AM/FM,tilt, a/c, p/s, p/d/b, etc., etc.?"
NO one really knows. Chevrolet DID NOT keep track of MULTIPLE RPO combinations. Promise.
Individually yes, most RPO's were tracked
with production figures.
Paint colors (exterior) Interior colors &
style/trim codes (bucket vs. bench) were also
NOT kept track of until later (early to mid
70's).
