My 454 is running at 210 degrees consistantly, never more than that while driving, under any load conditions. It heat soaks to 230 when I shut it off. It has 9.5:1 pistons, and I run 20W50 synthetic. No vapor lock, but the starter motor occasionally rebels a bit.
How about it, is 210 OK?

Warm but OK. Have you tried water wetter or cutting down your antifreeze/h2o ratio?

With an open element air cleaner you will feel some power loss usually at anything above 200 degrees, sometimes less than that. I'd sure try to cool it down some. tom

hmmm....
My 350 runs above 210 most of the time - and I see it a lot at 220ish. I've put in a new aluminum radiator with dual fans that kick on at 190. The thermostat is a 185. Hoses look okay, and water pump is fine.
I do live in the desert. But air temps "only" get to 125. But no temps above 104 so far this year.
