I think '68's have the smallest tail lights ever produced. To enhance other driver's awareness of my presence and slowing intentions, I thought about adding a third eye brake light. Ron Francis Wire Works makes cool LED ones, so I requested their catalog. Thumbing through the catalog, I noticed their extra bright tail light bulbs, direct replacements for 1157's. I decided to try a pair before scabbing a third eye in.
The bulbs are great. The running light is just about as bright as a normal brake light, and the brake is waaaaay brighter than a normal brake. I was concerned about extra heat melting the lens, but had no problem running the brakes nearly full time on a very crowded mainstreet cruise at 95 degrees.
I think Wire Works advises to check local laws before using their product. I personally think that rear ending my priceless Chevelle is much more of a criminal act than using these bulbs.
This is not an advertisement for WW. Just a friendly note for anyone with the same concerns as me.
