Hi buds raining today so here i am last night on my way home i stalded the beast went to start it starter went click 2 or 3 times then started all conections tight and clean.Only happens every 20 or so starts any thoughts guys need to figufe this out befor i get stranded its a 396 with a heat sheild over the starter also do i have to remove the header to get the starter off.The car is a 66 Beaumont

It could be worn brushes in the motor or one of them hanging up and not making contact with the armature. It could also be a dead spot on the armature and it when it stops in that position it won't turn.

Your starter is on its way out. Get a new one preferably an AC Delco.
