ANYONE OUT THERE WHO USE ELECTRIC FUEL PUMPS WITH THE STOCK GAS TANK....
WHERE DID YOU MOUNT IT.
JUST WANTED TO HEAR THE DIFFERENT PLACES WHERE THEY CAN BE MOUNTED. IM THINKING ABOUT PLACING MINE NEAR THE LOWER REAR SUSPENSION.
BUT SOMEONE I KNOW STATES HE PUT HIS ON THE PASSSENGER REAR FRAME RAIL (WITH THE STOCK TANK/SUMP KIT)...ON THE OUTER SIDE NEXT TO THE GAS TANK.. WHICH IS BETTER.

just in front of the rear end cover mounted on the vertical portion of the trunk sheetmetal. Bottom of pump is above the fill plug and cannot be seen with the car sitting at ride height. Same with the filter housing which is to the left(driver's side) of the pump approx. 15"

Mine defies the laws of gravity, but my Holley blue is capable of sucking, and thats why I keep her around. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
I have mine mounted like 1320, but horizontal, right above the rear end cover. I use a stock tank, the pump is out of sight, and the pressure is perfect.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK OF THE MALLORY COMP 140 FOR THE ZZ502/502????

Nebula72, I use that pump on my 575 horse 502 and it works just fine. Forget about using it with NOS though if that is in your long term plans...to feed the 502 you will need more volume to supply both the carb and nitrous fuel supply (according to NOS techs).
The only problem I had with that pump was when the pump brushes went to toast (completely burned out) after 1.5 years of 'weekend' cruising and attending car shows. I was surprised at them going out so fast and leaving me stranded. Contacted some folks and found out that my problem had to do with the way gas was getting to it. Fuel was being sucked up and out of the modified 1/2" gas tank pickup tube I was using at the time. Apparently, Mallory's Comp140 pump is designed to be gravity fed via a fuel cell or gas tank sump kit. Either works fine. Although, it seems that alot of folks like Big Block Dave and Racer1320 have had good luck by using the stock gas tank pick up tube. Maybe I had bad brushes to begin with? I don't know but I vowed to never be stranded on the side of the road again with zero fuel pressure! Installed an RCI 16 gallon fuel cell, replaced the fuel pump brushes and it's had about another 1.3 years of street useage since the mods. When the car was down recently while doing the 502 transplant, I re-checked the brushes to see how much brush material was left (had already ordered a back up set just in case) and happy to report that their is hardly any material gone. Apparently I had bad brushes to begin with or my pump just likes to be gravity fed. Hope this helps.
