Hey Guy's, My plastic circuit board that power's the gauge's on my 70 SS396 has a small tear in it where the ammeter is (top left corner of dash). Has anyone had any luck repairing one of these thing's? I was thinking of bonding the plastic back together, then using some of that stuff for repairing rear window defroster's to complete the circuit. Think it will work? Narti, Team Chevelle Gold #36

I haven't had to repair one of these boards, but I have worked in/around electronics for years. If the circut board is cracked and a trace (flat metal strip connctor) is broken you can usually find a circut board repair kit at Radio Shack.

But all you really need to do is provide an electrical path nwhere the trace is broken. I would use a piece of solid wire, also availible at Radio Shack (not stranded speaker wire), and solder it acoss the broken connection. Make sure you connection is good, then silicone over the area to protect it.

Agree with DG. I have repaired several of these with wire. Protect the solder joints with a little RTV like DG said. This is really not a circuit board (rigid) but instead a flex circuit- etch sandwitched between two pieces of plastic. Just about everyone I have repaired was in this area. The most current flows through this circuit and it is up on the corner that the dash/speaker rub on.
