I know there are many types and brands of headers out there for my application. I'm planning to redo my stock exhaust and install headers with duels. I'm on a budget and looking for something reasonable that will give me that "tone". The problem is choice of headers, there are so many out there. please give info on which brands are good and what problems I may encounter installing them. Help me decide.
Thanks,

Probably the easiest headers to install are the 3/4 length. They pretty much replace your existing manifolds and dump very clost to the stock manifold location. Pep Boys had (may still have) Flowtech 3/4's for $80. they are available in 1.5" tubes, which is an excellent size for your 283.

If you are running a column shift, make sure the collectors don't interfere with the mechanism. I've heard that sometimes a short collector will cause interference in that case.
Another problem that I've heard of is clearance around the proportioning valve, though I think it's an issue on factory disk brake '67s.

I installed two sets now.one on my 66 SB and one on my 72 BB Elcam both were Dynomax ceramic coated. Both fit very well and installed without ANY problems.
Buddy in the Chevelle just put a set of Flowtech's on his 64 SB and had to notch out couple of the bolt holes.
Try the Dynomax's from Summit Racing for $205 or the painted style for about
$85
