: Liberal use od dielectric?
Gene Chas Jun 20th, 99, 7:26 PM As I'm chasing down all the wiring on my new '67 and replacing headlights, etc. I'm cleaning all the terminals and using dielectric grease on all connections. SHould I be?
Also, where can you find a very small wire brush for cleaning connectors?

mike reeh Jun 20th, 99, 9:59 PM Gene dunno about the grease but I have wondered about using specifically "Lubriplate" white grease on electrical stuff...
As for the small wire brush, Dremel tools have a really small wire wheel (about 3/4 or 1" in diameter) that would work very well

Gene Chas Jun 21st, 99, 3:08 AM Mike, why not the dielectric grease instead of Lubriplate? Lubriplate is good stuff, but the dielectric is specifically designed to conduct eletricity.

Canuck64ss Jun 21st, 99, 3:14 AM Gene...
I used the dialectric grease with excellent results. It took me a whole weekend, morning to night to get all my connectors in my F-Body but it got rid of some annoying electrical problems that I was having. Go to an electronics supply store and get some contact cleaner. This stuff will chemically clean the contacts of corrosion without being too aggresive and the end result will be better. The stuff I live by is called Dylek and really works the trick. One thing though, if you're a smoker, DO NOT Smoke when using this stuff, VERY explosive because it has ether in it so be sure you ARE outside !

Gene Chas Jun 21st, 99, 5:37 AM Canuck, I'm going through everything piece by piece and I'm glad to hear that it's helped your electronics out. Just quit smoking , aaaaargh.
Harley, I remember hearing as a kid that Coke takes rust off bolts. Never tried it, Since I'm usually suckin' on one as I work on the 'Elle, I'll give it a whirl.

Bob Tiley Jun 22nd, 99, 6:11 AM Hey Gene, It's PEPSI not Coke. The PEPSI does the trick but Coke does not. I soaked a set of Pistons with the rods stuck overnight and it the morning the PEPSI had the rods swinging real nice.
