: How much should I pay?

A car dealer near my home has a 1972 Chevelle Malibu Super Sport with a 350 - 2bbl. I'm not sure whether or not the car is a clone. The car is in cherry condition, with a really nice pioneer/sony stereo and mag wheels. Regardless of It's super sport status, how much should I pay for this car? (The dealer is asking $10k).

Thanks!

WHEW! Thats a lot of wood for a questionable car(2bbl), and it better be flawlessly showroom. You'd be better off buying someone elses car, that they built to run like a baddass, and have the receipts for the parts to prove it. You'll find something nice for $4500-$6000.

This dealer will probably take advantage of your emotions from being there and touching the car(Its called the Puppy Dog sell), and tell you anything you want to hear to make you buy it. Walk away.

I believe that all of the SS's that came with 350's had 4 barrel Carbs. correct?
Also does it have the rare sweep dash? That definitely makes it worth the price you know. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

Here is one rule I go by, never buy from a used car dealer. The 2bbl thing does sound fishy. I would look around more.

Swing,

Dont be swayed by a stereo and wheels. Figure you can get a very nice sony or pioneer system any where including wal-mart for $180 for a CD and 70 for each pair of speakers. Figure the wheels are probably about $100 each.

in other words don't let $720 in stuff anyone can add to any car sway you into paying SS money for a Non SS Car.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Have fun.

P.S. If you don't know how to check if it is a true SS why not spend the $35 it would take for a SS knowledgable mechanic to check it out for you. Call around you will find some one im sure.

I like Dsmith's rule. I was going to buy a car from a used car dealer the other day. I looked at it and it looked beautiful. I had my mechanic look at it and it suddenly didn't look so good, or safe. Remember that it's there for a reason and the dealer will tell you what you want to hear ie:"it's a really rare sweep dash SS"
