: Is anyone running a later rear in a 66-67 URGENT??
Hot66ss Jun 6th, 00, 9:35 PM I don't mean to double post but I thought my new title would attract the people who are most likely have the info I need.
I decided to put American racing torq thrust II's on my 67 so now the rallys are up for sale. The person who wants to buy them has a 66 CHEVELLE WAGON WITH A 69 (longer rear end). Will my 15x7 stock chevy rallys with 275 60 R15 tires fit under the rear of his car? they fit fine on my 67 but he has the later rear. Any info is GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you
BTW. the reason I put urgent is because my new torq thrust will be here any day and I have to have the money from the rallys

Bomber '67 Jun 6th, 00, 10:02 PM It'll only take a few minutes to bolt them up and check it out. Other similar posts have indicated that the newer diff is about 3/4" wider.

rick Jun 6th, 00, 10:27 PM Well bolt them on & see if there is at least 1 1/2 inches clearance on each side. Thatstill gives 3/4 inch wiggle room.

Steve R Jun 7th, 00, 12:47 AM It will be close, he will probably need to roll his fender lip to gain the clearance he needs.

Doug Garland Jun 7th, 00, 6:26 AM A friend of mine bought a ' 67, and it had a ' 72 rear in it. He still ran 15x8 'Vette rallys , w/ 245-60's on it. I didn't look to see if the wheel lips were rolled though.

Big Block Dave Jun 7th, 00, 11:13 AM I HAVE a 71 rear in my 67'. BACKSPACING IS THE ISSUE. My draglites are 15x8 with a 4.5 backspace and they fit perfect. I run Vette ralleys 15x8 3.5 backspace with a 26x10.5 MT, and I had to cut the lip a little. If you run a skinnier tire with the 3.5 backspace you'll make it. Your Ralleys are probably 4.5 backspace and will have no problem at all.
"Jimmy, what are the odds on the Japanese team finishing?"
Greg Eacker Jun 7th, 00, 5:16 PM I rolled my rear fenderwell lips with a small set of vice-grip versus the hammer and dolly trick. As long as there is no Bondo, not a problem. But if you can afford an 8k paint job, whats a couple more $ if you screw it up. Just kidding!
Hot66ss Jun 7th, 00, 7:58 PM Big block Dave. How can I measure the backspace of the rims? why do you think its a 4.5 backspace?
Thanks fot all the help

mild68ss Jun 8th, 00, 7:32 AM i used to have a 66 with a 71 12 bolt in it. it had 15x7 rallys with 275/60/15 firehawks.
it worked out fine. i also used 15x7's with 29x10.5 slicks. i had to shave the inner lip just a tad.
if the 66wagon is the same as a 2dr. it should work out fine.
good luck
Cardiac Jun 9th, 00, 2:03 AM I just came from a friends house and he has a '67 rag top with a '69 rear end and factory style with 15x8's
Plenty of room.
