: Anyone ordered a Trim Tag?

There is a web site, which has been noted here, that makes Trim Tags ( cowl tags) to order. The guy says they are NOS to your specifications depending on certain options. I was just curious, has anyone ever actually ordered one and what do they look like? I mean, do they look legit and or would someone be able to tell it wasn't original to your car.....Just curious.

I have no experince with this company, or ordering trim tags.

However, I will say that on the whole this seems like a very shady deal that has the potential to rip off a lot of people who believe they are buying genuine SS cars by looking at the trim tag.

Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not trying to point fingers at ANYONE, but these kind of things start to make me cringe.

What do the rest of you guys think?

Once you have made up your mind, facts are but a mere annoyance.

Thanks, that's what I've been thinking. Though I do know of atleast one person who had thought about getting one after his engine compartment caught fire and melted some of his tag, I guess that would be about the only legit reason for getting one. Is that legal to change the trim tag? or just the Vin plate?

Mine is pretty old looking, after my frame off, I sure would like one that looks new.

I sure don't see anything wrong with duplicating your original tag. Especially if you keep the old one to back up what your new one says. I've seen the remakes and they are great copies. It's your car, do what you like.

I originally thought they were for Changing colors on a otherwise correct car even that I guess could be kinda a gray area MIKE

I bought my Chevelle about a year ago, thinking it was a clone and paying what a show condition clone would be worth. The cowl tag was missing, but everything else was there, including a matching #'s BBC engine. After careful research, with help from members on this site, I discovered that my car was manufactured in Canada. Canadian Chevelles had documentation stored by GM Canada. After I found the correct phone number, I requested an information package from them for $40.00 US. When I finally received the package, it came with what is the same as a build sheet. A total options list for my car, delivery dealer, date built, everything checked out perfect, including the last option of Z15, which is "SS Package" for 1972.

So.......I'm one of those kind of guys that would purchase a replacement cowl tag under very legit conditions.

Sure will make it tougher to check authenticity of 'numbers matching' cars for sale. Original one on my 67 took some cleaning up, but looks like new now and i know its real. I wont be a customer of theirs.
p.s. to Joe G: Can you pass along that Canadian phone number? I used to have a 66 Beaumont and would like to get that kit for nostalgic reasons.
thanks

pduncan,

I just did a search for GM Canada's phone number, I'm at work right now, so I didn't have my documents close by. The phone number listed is 1-800-263-3777, the persons name is George Zapora, he's the vintage car specialist on board.
