does anyone know the code CE? it is stamed on
my big block.the block is 4 bolt main,steel
crank,forged pistons. the shop that did the bottom end said its a 454 block, it has 427
crank,rods n pistons.bored 60 over to 438.
im just trying to find what this block came
out of,or if it was simply a crate motor.
any info would help . thanx

The CE was used on all warranty or over the counter engines, CE=Crate, Counter or Chevy engine, know one know's exactly what they had in mind.. It may or may not have a another number on it that would likely be shown on any warranty documentation if that was the destination. Now this CE may only pertain to just the block, most times only a short block (rings, bearings, cam,crank, timing gears) needed to be replaced under warranty.

Hey Rat,

Elcam is right on. You can still use the casting #'s to determine what version of heads and block you have as well as the date they were cast. mgg
