I purchased a new tank from NPD. I need to swap the filler neck, but I need to do this very carefully...spark...boom! What is the best way to do this, or do they sell a 67 Malibu filler neck out there. I don't have my catalogs in front of me. Maybe it's cheaper to buy a flame resistent suit. Thanks in advance.

The suit won't help much if you "BLOW" this one. Just set it down flat on the ground and fill it with water. Propane torch ( or other flame producing device) the old one out. "No sweat".

I had the same problem with a tank purchased from NPD. I called around to a few of the local radiatior shops til I found a reputable shop to swap the filler neck from the old tank to the new. Prices ranged from 20 bucks to as high as 50 bucks.

I did this on my 67, the tank had rusted through. I got a tank from a 65 Impala( the tanks from a 65 or 66 Impala are the same, but the neck is shorter on the Impala). I did it the same as Harley said, the neck is soldered in, it wasn't hard to change.Good luck.

No problem!! Just hose it out with a lot of water and get on with it. Make sure that you have some way of getting the filler in the correct position when you solder it.

After doing the water thing, I used an air chisel to cut around the filler neck solder joint. Then removed the small piece of tank from the filler neck with a propane torch. Safety first on this one.

Get yourself one of those big old soldering irons like Granpa used no spark no flame completly safe, just keep the source of heat( torch or whatever) well away from tank...FRED
