First, I hope everybody that went to the Turkey Run in Daytona had a good time.
Does anyone know a quick way to identify an 8.5 housing for a 1970? Thanks.

Art, I don't think they made an 8.5 rear that fits a '70. You might want to try doing a search on the engine and drivetrain forum.

Also, there's a question in that forum about the difference between 8.2 and 8.5 rearends. You'll find a link there to the results of a search I performed a few days ago.

Hey Art,
I couldn't tell you except for it will be a 10 bolt cover. However, if you search the web, you can find ID numbers for the rear ends in that year. Match the number with the one on the axle housing. I believe it is stamped on the housing on the pasengers side in the front or top. If you are going shopping for a rear end, you can take the list with you. Will eliminate all doubt.

Here is one link.

The only car I have found 8.5 chevy 10 bolts that will fit the chevelle are 72 monte carlos..I havent found one yet in a chevelle, but I would think some 72s may have come with them.

1971 was the cross-over year from the 8.2 to 8.5 ten bolt rear end.

Thank you very much. You have given me enough info to start my search.
